Eavesdropping

See I wonder
When that lady sang the blues
Was it to the tune of her own tears
Past lovers outlined in lyrics
Muffled in bittersweet memories
Promise me nots issued much too soon
Broken far too often
I wonder
Did her heart break with the melody
Nothing left to do but groove with the music
Did she sing or did she sang
Allowing the notes to showcase her pain
Lyrical expressions of disappointments
Nights of tossing and turning behind every word
Lady must have been hurt
Had to feel it deep down on the inside
Past the point of no return
Nothing left to do but cry
Or sing
Or write
Lady must have been a fly on my wall

As my beloved grandmother (now deceased) and other church “Sistas” of her generation used to say whenever the Preacher spoke words that stirred their souls…

    ….”Well tell da story!”
