Cory Booker for US Senate

Newark Mayor Cory Booker has defeated three experienced politicians in a New Jersey special election Tuesday to become the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

The democratic wunderkind and current mayor of Newark beat out U.S. Reps. Rush Holt and Frank Pallone as well as state Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver in a race clogged by democrats eager to land a nomination in a state that has only elected members of their party to the Senate for the last forty years.

‘We know what we believe in,’ he said. ‘We’re going to say what we believe, and when we go to Washington, D.C., we are going to do what we say.’ Booker said in his victory speech he would match Lonegan’s ‘negative attacks with positive visions.’ ‘He puts up his fist, I’ll extend a hand,’ Booker said. ‘… He wants to be a flamethrower? I want to be a bridge-builder.’ Booker is a close ally of Christie, though the governor said this week he ‘fully anticipates’ endorsing the winner of the Republican primary.
